Catholic Kidane Mehiret School, Nekemte is one of the schools in the East Wollega Zone of Oromia Regional state located in the Dergue sub-city of Nekemte town, about 500m away the right side of the road that goes from the center of the town to the Nekemte referral hospital. It was established in 1965 E.C ( 1972/73 G.C) with two teachers and one foreign director at kindergarten level. At the time the numbers of students were only thirty five (35). By expanding its services in 1973 E.C (1980/81 G.C) the school was upgraded to grade 6 and the first time 55 students attended the National Examination given in grade 6 at that time. By the help of Nekemte Vicariate, the school was upgraded again to grade 8 in the year 1981 E.C (1988/89 G.C) and the first batch  27 students attended the National Examination. 

As the continuous request of the parents and the interests of the community due to the good quality education and discipline of the school, the catholic mission was forced to upgrade the existing school to the level of secondary school (grade 9& 10) in the year 1998 E.C(2005/06 G.C) academic year. In 2005E.C(2012/13 G.C) academic year the school was upgraded to preparatory school (grade 11 and 12). The number and qualification of teachers increased and the number of students is also increasing from year to year. The school has well structured class rooms, laboratory, library, staff rooms and play grounds. However, still there is a need to have more class rooms, libraries and laboratories as the number of students coming to the school each year is increasing and the demand of the community is putting pressure as well. This time there are more than 2000 students enrolled in the school.
